well my friend was caught stealing things at jcpenny worth $124 approx. she's only 15 and this is her first time. what happens to her now? what is the court going to decide on for her? is she going to pay for other things besides the things that she stole? and what well happen to her mom?

. Fines (less than $500.00)
. Community service
. Ban from JCP
. Probation
. Civil Demand (probably around $300.00
there could be other issues but this are pretty much the norm -

Civil demand is a civil action and restitution is order by the court in your criminal case. Now why do you have to pay? Simple its the law

Your friend is 15, not an adult. Her parent will be responsible for her.
If they charged her, depending on what state you're in, she will go to "Family Court" with her parents. Not much will happen to her, or her parents. The arrest will NOT go on her "Adult Record". She may get probation. A few weeks down the road, her parents may get a letter, stating they have to pay a "civil demand", it's normally between $75. to $500. The civil demand suks for kids, cause parents hell and ground them when they are caught, when they goto court, and just when everyone forgets about it, they get that Civil Demand letter. lol
Even tho her parent may NOT need an Attorney, it IS sometimes wise to face criminal charges with an Attorney.
Also if it is "Family Court", it would NOT be really "Criminal Charges" in a Criminal Court. -
