Getting Credit Cards Before Bankruptcy To Use Afterwards
    Hi there:

I recently had a business failure. Because of personal guarantees on the leased property and credit card debt obtained because the business was losing money and I needed to provide for my family, I am going to be forced to file ch. 13 within the next 3 or four months. I am currently not using my personal credit cards and paying minimum payments just to keep my head above water. (I have to much equity in my home for a 7). My question is, if I get a credit card now, and don't use it at all, will it be available for use AFTER filing bankruptcy? I'm thinking of this only to begin to build my credit score. Prior to my business failing, I have never had any debt, always paid cc's off every month. I currently have a credit score in the mid 700's. I just want to make sure that I can get back on top of things as quickly as possible after the dust settles.

    Thanks.

It is up to the creditors, whether they let you keep the accounts open through bankruptcy. You would be expected to inform the trustee of the accounts.
