Shoplifting as a Juvenile
I shoplifted as a juvenile, and was charged as a juvenile.
PD got involved.
I stole a 90 cent can of soda.
No fine. Waited in a jail cell until parents picked me up.
Did the fingerprints and photographs.
Had to go to a "Shoplifting Help" Session.
If I wipe my juvenile record (now that I am 18),
will I still have to check "YES", legally, under, "Have you
ever been convicted of a felony/misdemeanor?" for a
job application?
Shoplifted in Hawaii.
Re: Shoplifting as a Juvenile
From what you say, it does not sound like you were convicted of an offense. Also, juvenile courts typically 'adjudicate' young offenders, as opposed to 'convicting' them. But I have no way of verifying your disposition, so you need to find that out from the juvenile court.
Re: Shoplifting as a Juvenile
If you didn't goto a court of some sort, I doubt you were convicted of it.
You say the police got involved and took your finger prints, yet you don't mention any court. It seems like you might not even have been charged with the offense. Some police departments offer these "shoplifting courses" to the public as a public service thing, and to send "juvenile" to, as juvenile don't normally get punished for any crimes. The police might just try to scare you by the finger prints and pictures, and after a parents picks you up, you toss them in the trash.
Best to goto the police the police department to inquire about the arrest, if you were arrested they should be able to give you a copy of their report. With the report, you can goto the town or city's "town court clerk" to find out if you were "convicted".
I can't believe you were check that you were "convicted" on a job application, when you may not have even been charged with it.
It seems the answer to your question is most likely going to be NO.
