Sued Over Credit Card Debt
I recently received a summons for a credit card debt. I live in the state of Florida. I want to work this out. I have 20 days to respond to the courts and attorney firm that is heading this. what is the best way to approach this-I will respond to the court but what would be my next step. Thank you for your time. this by the way is the only acct on my credit bureau that has any negative marks. I just want to resolve this in the easiest and quickest manner..
Re: Sued Over Credit Card Debt
If you wish to proceed without a lawyer, which I assume you do, after you file your answer with the court and serve a copy on the plaintiff's law firm, contact that law firm and ask about settlement. Sometimes they'll decline to negotiate or insist upon 100% of the debt (possibly plus attorney fees and court costs), but other times they'll agree to a reduction in amount, a payment schedule, or both. They will probably want to enter a consent judgment any agreement you reach.
