Malicious Destruction of Property in Michigan
Could you please send me a link to better understand what the charges related (malicious destruction of property) to a MDOP in Michigan could be for a 19 year old. (charged with breaking a side mirror on car). Would also appreciate any other information or support you might recommend. Also how do we go about getting a court appointed attorney?

Michigan has a number of MDOP offenses, which you can review here, MCL 750.377 et seq.

Is it wishful thinking or do I read that if the charges are $500.00 or less it could be considered a misdemeanor vs. felony? Thank you for such quick response.

Under which statute? Under a commonly charged statute, MCL 750.377a, MDOP between $200 and $1,000 is a one year misdemeanor.

When you petition for a court-appointed lawyer, you get the lawyer the court assigns. If you have a clean record, you may be able to avoid a conviction through HYTA sentencing, and should discuss that with your lawyer.

One last question please, but where/how do you get a court appointed attorney? As you can see this is a first time experience for me and we need to take action quickly. (Yes, it was 750.377a I was reading, I did read up on HYTA also, thank you!)
