Felony Shoplifting
I was caught shopplifting and the amount of stuff I had equals a felony...$300. I am very ashamed and have for sure learned my lesson. I cannot afford an attorney but I have been told I dont qualify for a public defender. Can I defend myself? Can I ask for the diversion program? I was told the diversion program is community service, and some classes and once completed the charges can possibly be dropped. Is this true? What are my options?

Re: shoplifting
You do not want to defend yourself on felony charges without legal help. talk with a criminal defense Attorney many will grant free office consultation

Re: Felony Shoplifting
Go to court, they will give you an attorney, and you will get the great deal everyone else gets, the "diversion program", yes it's true. Kinda makes you wonder if anyone learns a lesson?
Represent yourself, you will not get a deal.

Re: Felony Shoplifting
Dont misinform the OP. The OP will get PD if he/she qualifies and also request one. The "great deal" may not come on a case of "felony" sholifitng but it is possible. What OP should do is consult with a criminal defense Attorney (many will grant an intial free office visit) then OP will be armed with information that can help his/her decisons about his/her defense
