Summons for Debt From Junk Debt Agency in Illinois
I received a summons the other day to appear in the Dupage Circuit court regarding a debt that was originally owed to Household Bank.
A different company has bought the debt and is now suing through a law firm.
Is there any way to get out of this? They are trying to charge 24% interest. It is not past the statute of limitations. How can they collect on the banks behalf?

As you say, they purchased the debt from the bank. They are collecting their debt on their own behalf. You would owe interest in accord with your contract with the original lender.

How do you know that they own the debt?

I don't know, they claim to own it.
Update on this:
I had the court date set, when I went to court the plaintiff did not show up. So I got a default judgment in my favor.
Also when the case was first called and the plaintiff was not there I motioned for dismissal. The judge told me to sit down and that he would call the case again. Why did the plaintiff get a second chance??????? Had it been me suing someone I think I would have lost the on the first call. Also the lawyers who go through lots of cases get default judgments right away when the defendant does not show, I think unfair. Why does this happen?
