Ford Focus Defects
Perhaps this will be the springboard for someone to make a lot of money off of a lawsuit, but it needs to happen. Ford focuses (from about 00-04, at least) have two incredible flaws that we (four different, casual acquaintance owners!) have noticed:
1) Ignition breaking and becoming unable to turn (this is fairly well-documented on the internet)
2) Ford focus keys work on the back hatch/trunk of every ford focus. I dont know how widespread this news is, but it's insane. My question is: Is there legal ground to stand on without your car being stolen or your belongings being stolen due to the key exploit? What are the first steps to take in creating a case like this?
Thanks, in NC

Re: Ford Focus Defects
My husband has a Ford Focus; we've experienced the first but not the second. (Although we have a lot of difficulting locking the trunk - sometimes takes five or six tries.)
When I was doing the research on issue number 1, I saw that there appear to have been at least a couple of localized class action suits but I can't recall how (or if) they came out. This is not my area of expertise but I doubt if it's a do it yourself project. You'll need to involve an attorney.

Re: Ford Focus Defects
This is really good to know I have been eye-balling a used '02 focus for a bit now from a private owner, think now I'll stick with the make of my current vehicle.

Re: Ford Focus Defects
Oh and while you're at it, how about TWO transmission replacements within first 50,000 miles (02 model). And leaking valve cover gaskets causing melting of cheap plastic thermostat housing and burst radiator hose...these are cheaply built pieces of crap.
