    Maryland Emancipation at Age 16
I live in Maryland and my boyfriend needs to be emancipated. He has been out of school since middle school ended. His mother refuses to send him to school. She makes up excuses like, they don't have air conditioning or the bathroom stalls didn't have doors, and we do have air conditioning, so that was a lie! This will be his 3rd year missed, he should be in my grade and I am a junior. His mother had him assigned to homeschooling for the past two years and he did the minimal work. He never took the tests that are required or anything. The person assigned to check his progress was his mother's friend and lied to the school. The school didn't care when I told them. Now he's 16 and the law no longer binds him to school so there is nothing that can be done. His mother needs to sign him up to take the HSA's but she refused. The next tests are in January and he can join after he takes them. She also has neglected that he needs surgery on his abscess tooth. I saw on the news that a boy died from having an abscess tooth and now I am really worried about his health. She also refuses to add him to her insurance and he has had the car for 3 months now. She takes his whole child care checks and won't even tell him who his father is. She basically doesn't care about him at all! He really needs help so if you can tell me what I can do for him I would be forever greatful! I don't want his life to be thrown away because his mother is an idiot!:(

Your boyfriend does not need to be emancipated. He needs to contact CPS.

I already contacted them and told them everything. The lady wrote down everything I said and told me they were going to look into it and if it was unsafe they would remove him, or something like that, I don't know if they ever did anything but they were also no help to me.

Contact them again, and be persistent.

They aren't supposed to be of any help to you. It's not your situation. You do not have legal standing to force them to report back to you.

The state of Maryland does not permit a minor to petition for emancipation. If it is going to happen, it's going to be either because the parents consent to it or because of abuse or neglect by the parent. But that's going to take CPS to establish.

I called back again to ask them if they had done anything and they said they couldn't tell me, so I know if I call back they will tell me they already know everything and are working on it or something.

He can call and report it if he wants to.

If it were me living with the pain of an abscess tooth, I would have called immediately.

No. As I said, you have no legal standing to do anything with regards to someone else that you're not even related to.
