    Accidental Murder On Purpose
I've got a vivid imagination.. if I say that, nobody's going to ask how i got this idea, right? Okay, let's just try it anyway. All hypothetical, people!
    The situation is as follows:
In Miami, California a man (let's call him J) rapes and brutally kills his daughter's girlfriend (we'll call the daughter E). He used his daughter's ornament knife he stole from her apartment but it already had E's fingerprints on it. The cops think it was E who killed her girlfriend (fingerprints on knife). They find out it was actually J because of some skin under the vitim's nails. E goes after J, with the intention of killing him but has no weapons on her, beats the crap out of him then when the cops find them J somehow manages to hold a police officer as his hostage (I could explain the whole thing but it would get too complicated). FYI, they're in an apartment building, two stories up. E gets the cop free and pulls J down with her through the window (again, I could explain but this is all hypothetical). J dies on impact but E's still alive.
I know they'll probably still arrest her for assualt and battery but attempted murder too? Or does the fact that she sort of saved the cop help her case?
I don't know if it changes anything, but E had a crappy childhood, her parents never paid any attention to her and she has killed before (accidentally) when she was a teenager where she did a few years for.

I hope someone can help me with my question.
    Thanks in advance

No one here can give you an accurate answer. Here is why

. We know very little about the two parties
. We know very little of thier history
. We have no physical evidence to examine
. We have no crime scene photos or drawings
. Other than yours we have no eye witiness testimony
. We have no autopsy or medical examnation results on two parties

    These to name a few

It's a kind of homework... I have a tendency of getting caught up in challenges and bets.
I told my professor Recht en Wet (roughly translated: Right and Law) you could find anything on the internet... Don't let the subject fool you, I'm just a Sales student.
Anyway, my professor doesn't agree so he gave me the previous situation and told me to search the internet and see what the charges would be against her and what kind of sentence she'd get in Miami, California. (He just loves making things difficult)
I'm not allowed to go in direct contact with any laywers or police officers. I have no clue how the legal system works in America (let alone Miami) because I live in Europe.
I don't like being wrong but if panther10758 is right then I guess I owe my professor a sixpack.

    Thanks anyway ;)

The answer is, she doesn't get charged with anything... because Miami is in Florida. ;)

It's sort of like asking... If a plane crashes on the border of Portugal and Spain, where are the survivors buried?

    .
    .
    .
    .
    .

    (You don't bury the survivors.)

You might want to change that to "That'll teach me for sleeping through Geography.

The sad thing is, in sales, this would just be a good laugh over a cigar and a round of golf. ...and you will still have a 6-figure salary.

...and there is a Miami in California, but the professor likely meant Miami, FL.

    Okay.. Geography then :p Sorry.

Nope, he meant Miami, FL. Got myself a great grade and a six-pack as a bonus (unlike in America, we can drink beer and soft-alcoholic drinks from the age of sixteen)

I don't know about that 6-figure salary... Maybe I mistranslated my uhm.. education orientation? The thing I'm referring to is High School (sort of) and they teach us everything about stores and boutiques and things like that to open a store yourself or just work in one... I don't know if you have a orientation in America that actually teaches that...
The pay kinda sucks but the job itself is fun.
