Emancipation Insight

I live in Florida and I'm sixteen and six months. Basically, what I'm wondering is if I'm capable of being emancipated. It's something I've been pursuing for a couple of years now and now I'm to the point where I can do what I need to do to get it done. I won't go to into detail with the situation, but I'll let you know what you need to. My Mother's parental rights were terminated when I was fourteen in central Michigan. My Father's whereabouts were at the time unknown so I became a 'Ward of the state.' I was able to contact my Father, who was in Indiana, when I turned fifteen and eventually he acquired sole custody of me and I moved to Indiana. In October of 2006 he was hospitalized with Cancer. Things got rough for me and I started acting up and wound up in the Juvenile Justice Center in northern Indiana. That was January/February of 2007. I have not had any contact with my Father since December of 2006. In February of 2007, I was released from the Detention center. I was released to a friend of the family that I had previously known. In March of 2007 that friend of the family and I moved down to Florida. Since I've been here I've grown more and more reliant on myself. I was attending public schools, but found a greater necessity for a daytime job. I transfered of of my classes to online courses and am excelling. While the people I'm with don't have custody of me, they are supportive of my emancipation. Can you offer any help or insight for my situation?

Also, I receive a Social Security check every month due to my Father's disabilities, am I still eligible to receive that when I continue to pursue emancipation? It's enough to pay a good rent.

Your chances are less than most and the national success rate (based on numbers I have seen) is less than 1% are successful. Here are just two reason why I feel its waste of time

. You have a criminal past
. Parents must file the petition in FL

Sorry, I wasn't specific enough.
No charges were filed, no convictions were made.
It was more/less a 'safe house' until I had somewhere I could go.

Where are you working full-time so that you are able to support yourself 100%?

I work at for a repair company out of Gainesville, FL.
Income is recorded and taxed.

And you are supporting yourself 100%?

You pay your own rent/house payment?

You pay for all your groceries?

You pay for all your medical, dental, life, disability, hazard, and car insurance?

You pay for your car every month?

You work at least 40 hours per week?

You mention no criminal charges yet you also mention detention what were the circumstances? You also mention getting into trouble. What kind of trouble? However all that will be pointless if you cannot answer every question posed by SJ

I use my Social Security and income to pay for groceries. My car was bought used, it's payed off. Insurance is covered. I do work at or about 40 hours a week. I have some kind of Florida Medicaid insurace coverage. I have assigned doctors for each profession. I don't pay rent as of now, the people I live with won't accept it. Which I'm not complaining about.

Sounds like you've made a good start.

I was with a friend when they stole some money from a family member and was with them when they used it to purchase some items. I was staying with my grandparents at the time and there was miscommunication on what exactly had occurred. They had me arrested and I was detained for theft. I was assigned a probation officer and explained at my trial my story and circumstances (including what had happened to my Father). From there the judge ordered that all charges were dropped and that I remain in protective custody until living arrangements were made. The friend of the family then drove down to Indiana from Michigan and I was released to them.
