Answering Application Questions About Criminal History
About 12 years ago I completed a 2 year probation for a felony charge and received a deferred sentence in the state of Texas. I have never had any problem up until recently. I have recently taken some time off work but I would like to go back, I am qualified for good jobs but I am scared to go back out and get a job because I am not sure what I am legally suppose to put on the application when I am asked "Have you ever been convicted of a felony?" "Have you ever been arrested?" I was only 18 when I received this charge, I have not been in trouble since and the last thing I want to do on an application is lie. I have been reading all the "deferred sentences and getting a non-disclosure", but what would be the point if it will still show up on my record and if legally I would need to tell them about the charge anyway? I am a hard working and very honest, I have been told I was too honest, but because of this charge that was suppose to be deferred I can not get a job. Please let me know what I am legally to put on the application so that I won't be doing anything wrong. Thanks!
