Changing a Child's Middle Name Without the Father's Consent
Is there any chance of having my son's middle name changed without his father's consent? His father refuses to allow the change because it is a family name from his side. It is a name I hate, and was pursuaded to use. Plus his first and middle initials are P.P. (can you forsee the teasing?)

We were never married and he left me to move 1000 miles away while I was pregnant. I also foolishly gave our son his last name. Now I would like to use the middle name I wanted. Our son is 15 months old. I live in FL. I have already filled out the paperwork, but am wondering the chances of a judge agreeing to it. Or am I pretty much out of luck?

    Thanks

Re: Middle name wthout father's consent?
If you wish to change the child's name, you need to notify the father of your petition for a name change. Typically, to get a name change where one parent opposes it, you would have to prove to the court that the name change is in the best interest of the child. "I hate the name and he may get teased" probably falls quite a bit short of that standard.
