Re: Lent a Friend Some Money
Consider small claims court.
Re: Lent a Friend Some Money
If you tell us the name of your state, we can tell you the max. amt. you can sue for in small claims court. How much is owed you - is it a rather small amount?
You might send the person a letter first telling them if they don't pay, you will sue them in court. Maybe they will pay up.
Re: Lent a Friend Some Money
Is there any documentation to support you loaned this person money? Are there witinesses to the loan etc.
Re: Lent a Friend Some Money
i live in new jersey and the amount is $1,500.00 the money was traded in a bank so im hopeing that the security cameras saw the transaction
Re: Lent a Friend Some Money
Don't count on the bank being willing to share its videos, assuming they even maintain copies dating back to when the transaction occurred. Banks are reluctant to share anything which might let people know how their security systems work.
Re: Lent a Friend Some Money
You can sue for up to $3,000 in small claims court in N.J. so you would be ok if you decided to take that action.
Re: Lent a Friend Some Money
thanks for all of the info
Re: Lent a Friend Some Money
His problem will be proof. without "friend" acknowledging loan will there be any proof there was a loan or the condition for repayment?
Re: Lent a Friend Some Money
That's true but if the friend doesn't pay up, his only option might be small claims court. It will then be up to the judge to decide who to believe if his friend doesn't admit to borrowing the money.
