Returning an Item Following Discount at Purchase
Im in Ottawa. I bought two items in a dept store. The deal was buy one at reg price and the second one would be 50% off. I bought two products. realised a week later that i didnt want one of the items. took it back to the store and he gave me a refund on it. I also mentioned to the guy that when i bought it it was a buy one get one 50% off and he said ok ( the deal wasnt on when I returned it). He did the return. When I checked me recipt with the refund transaction he didnt make the second item reg price, so i basically walked out keeping one item at 50% off.

I guess my question is, should i go back and tell them. I purchased it on credit card, so would the store somehow think I tried to refund fraud them. If so, than im going in to mention to them that they made a mistake. Funny thing is, after I recieved the refund, I even asked the guy if the second item is at reg price now and he said yes. but clearly according to my recipt it wasnt.

item #1 that I paid for was at reg price $850 and item #2 was priced at $750, however, item #2 was reduced to $375. In the end I walked out of the store with an item that I paid $375 for.

Why are you worried about this? Have you been doing this a lot? Has one of your friends been arrested for doing this?

If it was a one-off event, you in fact told the store clerk the entire truth, he gave you the full refund (even though it would be obvious to a child that he should not have done so), and there has been no involvement of the courts or police, I do not expect that you will face charges.

If you feel bad that the store employs such an incompetent clerk, and want to go back to speak with a manager and try to get the credit corrected, I don't see that anything is stopping you.
