Hi. My girlfriend and I have been together for a year and a half. I turned 18 in June, and she will be 17 in January. Her parents hate me, and somehow tricked her into staying with her aunt and uncle for a few months in Missouri with the promise that she could move in with me when she got back. She left Butte County, CA for Springfield, MO on March 7th. After 3 months her parents refused to buy her a plane ticket back(without even asking her aunt and uncle if she could stay with them). She ran away in mid July, and started a transitional youth program in Springfield 2 weeks later. She has been living independently in an apartment in Springfield, MO since Augest 1st. She is a Juinor in high school, attends school every day, and makes excellent grades. She also works on average 30 hours a week at a resturant. She pays rent, and buys her own food, clothes, etc. She hates Missouri and wants to come back to California. She was planning on fileing for emancipation out there, getting emancipated, and then comeing back to CA. But because of the laws out there she is not able to do that. It seems she will first have to go back to CA to file for emancipation. She will not stay with her parents. She wants to get emancipated and continue to live independently on her own, but now is confused on how to go about doiong so. Does anyone have any advice on what she can do, how she can do it, or how likely it would be for her to come back to CA and get emancipated even without her parents consent? Anything would be helpfull. Thanks...

She is still under parental authority and must live where they say. she must apply for emancipation in state she has "legal" residence which at this time is MO. Furthermore no judge in any state will grant such a petition so a minor can live with thier adult BF! Last if you two have any sexual contact then you can be arrsted for sex offenses as age of consent in CA is 18

Thier petition to contest the emancipation could easily be put down by a statment from her therapists and other people. 1st You never stated that and it often the case when teen post here asking about emancipation for thier BF/GF
Second. so once the purpose of emancipation is so you can keep the relationship. by the way emancipation does not make sex legal!
Third. So what people have had been further apart and still saw each other

She is not trying to get emancipated for this relationship, she is trying to get emancipated because she(and her therapist) believe it is in her best intrests. Her parents have been called horrible parents by 1 phychologist and 3 therapists and about 100 other people. She has already been succesfully independent on her own 1000's of miles away from home for months. She is highly mature and responsible. This has nothing to do with me or our relationship. This is about what is best for her and her mental health. She would be posting this if she had access to a computer.Quote:
