When Does Child Support End
I have a question about my husband's son. My husband has been paying child support for his son since he was three years old. Now, his son will turn 18 years old in few months. He will not be graduating since he failed twice. The question is when the child support stops either at 18 yrs of age or when he graduates from high school? Also, I heard that if he decides to go to college, his father will have to continue to pay child support as long as he's in school or college? Is that true?
Another question about his son is that he moved with his aunt. He no longer lives with his mom and his mom had just moved out of town. He lives with his aunt since a year ago. Well, his aunt complained to my husband that his mom still gets child support money even though he doesn't live with his mom. So my husband called the child welfare about child support and they said something like they can't transfer the money from his mom to his aunt. I don't remember the excat reason but can they do that just let his mom collect all the money while his aunt takes care of my husband's son? We would like to have his son come live with us but he was born and raised where he now lives and it's like 3 hours drive plus he has girlfriend that he doesn't want to be away from. We understand that but we feel that it's not right for his mom to keep the child support money while his son lives with his aunt with no support. Even his mom refused to give his aunt money to support her own son! His mom and his aunt are sisters. They are not on speaking terms as well his mom is with her son either. So, how do we get the child support money transfer to his aunt so she can take care of him? thanks Oh by the way, it says please include name of my state...it's Louisiana.

What does his court order say as to when child support should end? Does it include college in the order? If not, it is not very likely that a judge will order it after the fact.
Generally speaking, in Louisiana the obligation ends when the child reaches 18 years of age unless the child is still in high school - in which case the support ends upon the child's graduation from high school, or the child's 19th birthday, whichever occurs first.
To answer your second question, a change of custody would have to have taken place for the aunt to legally be entitled to child support. Since that has not happened, the mother of the child is still entitled to the support payments.
Re: When Does Child Support End
You need to go ahead and file a modification to stop the CS when he reaches 18.
