    Disorderly Conduct in Alabama
I was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct-noise after a traffic stop for running a red light. I got arrested b/c I thanked the city police officer for the ticket and told him that the GD light needs to be fixed. I spoke with an attorney about my case but didn't get all of my questions answered. He charges $2500 for city court alone. I have never been in any trouble before now and don't forsee getting in trouble again. I had a "once in a blue moon" moment of bad judgement.

What criminal class is disorderly conduct-noise?

If I enter a no contest plea will I get a chance to appoligize for my actions and state that I will never do it again? Or is a no contest plea a bad choice?

If I plea no contest might the judge drop the charges?

Do I lose my right to carry a weapon? And if so, for how long?

Quoting Alabama Criminal Code Section 13A-11-7 - Disorderly conduct.
    (a) A person commits the crime of disorderly conduct if, with intent to cause public inconvenience, annoyance or alarm, or recklessly creating a risk thereof, he:
    (1) Engages in fighting or in violent tumultuous or threatening behavior; or

    (2) Makes unreasonable noise; or

    (3) In a public place uses abusive or obscene language or makes an obscene gesture; or

    (4) Without lawful authority, disturbs any lawful assembly or meeting of persons; or

    (5) Obstructs vehicular or pedestrian traffic, or a transportation facility; or

    (6) Congregates with other person in a public place and refuses to comply with a lawful order of the police to disperse.
    (b) Disorderly conduct is a Class C misdemeanor.

A "no contest" plea is treated as a guilty plea, so if you plead "no contest" you can expect to be convicted and sentenced.

Misdemeanor charges (other than domestic violence) don't typically affect firearms rights, but check with your County Sheriff who should be able to provide you with a solid answer.

Was that your intent? I have seen ordinances on the books that could be plead down to "Creating a public disturbance" if there arent any witnesses push the issue and get rid of the misdemeanor charge. P.S. The cop isnt a good witness. You dont want a misdemeanor that could be used against you in the future for exercising your Right to Bear Arms.

If there really is something wrong with the Light System get out your video camera and document it.
