Your asking us if its ok for you to break the law?
No of course not. I feel sick. I want to return it, but I'm afraid of what's going to happen. :wallbang::confused:
Should I return it? My friends say I'll get into bigger trouble and I don't have money!:(
I'm stupid I know. I need help. Will they catch me?? WHAT DO I DO??? I'm a good girl, I've never done anything like this before. I don't know what I was thinking...:wallbang:
Return it in mail with no return address
But what if they're on to me or something??
Should I add money? I get 5$ this Monday.. Will there be like a shoplifting notice in the backroom of the store? Our family friend works there..:wallbang:
For sure?
Should I add a note saying I'm sorry or something?
I also really want to add money. It's the least I could do.
so is it okay to mail the product back, add a sorry note, and a five dollar bill?
Just mail the product back with a sorry note if that would help you much, and most importantly, remember never to commit a petty theft crime again. Feeling miserable and regretful shows that you recognized your misdeed, but converting that energy into teaching your peers of the consequences of shoplifting could be a better way to obtain self-forgiveness to some people. And it's solely up to you to determine if you want to go that extra mile.
So I will be fine? Like, the police won't call or knock on my door or something like that? :( I know for sure I won't do something stupid ever again. But are the police (or the store) still on to me??
Thanks so much..
No one can say that for sure but its very unlikely any Police wil comea knocking
Heres a question.
Say they are on to her and they know who she is and they charge her, is said charge worsened since she got away? Not to scare her or anything
Okay, right. Thanks.
So how many weeks/months/years till I know I'm completely safe or something like that? (given that I will NOT do it again ever)
And yeah Cable, no problem :) We can never rule that out from happening. No matter how petty the thing I did. My friends keep telling me that the police have better things to do, but we just never know. But hopefully they do have better things to do.
BTW, I mailed it today. Hopefully they get it tomorrow, or by Wednesday.
Also, Panther, are you a lawyer or something? Just wondering.
"Something" is better explanation.:D The statute of limitations is normally one year for theft like this.
Okay, so you're not a lawyer... But you still know your stuff for sure, right? Because I just wanted to feel safe...
Okay, one year and I'm completely free??
I am not familar with the SOL for this crime in your area but one year is the norm
a lot of places i know of do not check and replay the tapes and they usually only have security watching at the time if at all.. if they were "on to you" they would have approached you before or immedately after you left the premises... once you leave it would be hard for them to prove that no only did you atempt to steal it but you infact took it out of the store... because if they did for some reason check the tapes later on and saw you stored the merchandise on you they would have to prove that without a doubt you left with the product and that you did not put it back somewhere else in the store... which is easier said than done...
so if no one stopped you there you mostlikely have gotten away with it...unless of corse you waved it in front of a camera outside of the door...
You never know, the LP could do investigations and such. look at my threaD:

Honey, no one here has a crystal ball and no one here can say for certain that if nothing happens within x amount of time you're in the clear. But you know something? I don't think you're ever going to feel safe again because you KNOW you did wrong. The only way you're going to feel better about yourself and what you did is by admitting it and taking whatever consequences there are. Not by returning it anonymously - that leaves the whole thing hanging over you not knowing what happened at the other end of the transaction.
It is EXTREMELY likely that if you return the item and admit what you did, the penalties will be minimal. But whatever they are, they'll be over and done with. If you take any other route, you're going to be punishing yourself for the rest of your life.
