Australian Year 11 Student wants to practice law in the US
I am currently in year 11, I will have finished my HSC in about 13 months or so. In which time I wish to apply for university's. I've always wanted to practice law in the US, I am well aware that it is not like the TV shows and that there is a lot more paperwork and a lot less fighting in courtrooms. Even so I wish to move to America as I think it would be more interesting than living in Australia. I want to know what would be the quickest way to practice law in the US. What universities should I apply to? What sort of grades would I need? Do they even take Australian students? Am I required to be a US citizen for a certain amount of time?
Re: Australian Year 11 Student wants to practice law in the US
Typical approaches are either to obtain a law degree through a U.S. law school (a graduate degree in the U.S.) or to obtain a law degree in your home country then pursue an L.L.M. through a U.S. law school. You don't need to be a citizen to go to school in the U.S., you just need a student visa, but you do need either an employment visa, permanent residency or citizenship to work in the U.S. as a lawyer.
