Maryland Resident Charged With Reckless Driving in Virginia
I was pulled over and got a reckless driving ticket for going 82 in a 65 in Henrico County, Virginia. I have never had a speeding ticket before in my life. I am a resident of Maryland and am going to medical school in VA. I was on my way home from med school for a surprise visit to my mom (whom I was talking to on the phone) when I was pulled over by a unmarked police car following me, so no radar. It seems to me that I should be able to get the charge lowered so that it is no longer reckless driving and instead only receive a ticket, given all of the variables such as my clean record and only going 2 over 80 (and not over 20). I just wanted to make sure that this is the case and that hiring a lawyer would be unnecessary.

Hiring a lawyer is not necessary, but it can be helpful. (Sort of like, in many situations, hiring a doctor. ;))
