If you have only been with them for six months now you will not be eligible for FMLA by October. One of the criteria for eligibility, and ALL of the eligibility criteria must be met, is that you have worked for your employer for no less than 12 months.
That being the case, unless you have a bona fide contract or CBA that specifically says otherwise, or there is a state law that grants you additional leave protection (Utah does not) your employer has no obligation to extend you any medical or family leave and if you take any, they are under no legal obligation to hold your job for you or offer you employment when you are able to return.
I can't tell you whether they WILL fire you. What I can tell you is that legally, they CAN fire you.
