Catching Shoplifters From Surveillance Video
My roommate has done a stupid thing today. She went to the Albertson Market and did a shoplifting. She opened a pack of pens and stole one of them and put it in her purse. She left the store after she paid for a box of candy at the selfservice cashier. Nobody catching her and only the securtiy man come to help her to use the selfservice cashier. Do you think that she might get catch later if they review the security video? Can they catch her with the only evident that is security video? She told me that she was scare and regret what she have done, so she come back to the store 10 minutes after she left the store to looking for the pack of pens that she opend and want to pay for it but it gone away. There is someone already clean it up. She is so worry and think that they would see the opened pack so they might come back to watch the video then arrest her later, pls give me some advice so I can calm down my friend. Thanks.
Re: Catching Shoplifters From Surveillance Video
Why would the store watch 12 or more hours of video without cause? Unless someone directs them to exact time etc of theft its very unlikely the theft video will be seen. If there is any video at all. Furthermore there are steps Loss Prevention must follow to make shoplift arrests its doubtful all the steps will be on video. I would say you got away with it but I further suggest you not try this again
Re: Catching Shoplifters From Surveillance Video
Thanks Panther 10758 for replying. Do you mean that if the store catchs my friend they would catch her right on the sense or when she step out of the store? Do you know is there any case shopliffter that has been catch in couple days after it happen? the reason that I worry for my friend is she came back to the store within 10 minutes to look for the opened pen pack but it dissapear, I think the store employee took them and give them to the security to watch on the video tape to find out who did it. If my roommate have seen in the video, can the store use the video or printfinger to arrest her? Do you think that the would do that? thanks

Thanks Panther 10758 for replying. As I said that is possilbe but there is criteria that must be met to make a successful shoplifting stop. Its doubtful that the video (if any) would meet that criteria. Even if open package was gone who is to say it was store staff that took it? then you are assuming that store staff took it to Loss Prevention. Even either further assume that Loss Prevention will spend the incredible amount of time needed to view video tape for entire day up to point Store employee brought package to LP. Last you assume this $3.00 (est) pack of pens is worth tha tmuch time and effort to LP who will have to stop watching store for bigger thieves to do so. so as you can see its unlikely anything will happen but to play it safe you (oops your friend) should stay out of that store for a bit
Re: Catching Shoplifters From Surveillance Video
thanks for quick reply, Panther. Do you think that the Albertson Markets have a Surveillance Video? My roommate ussually do a stupid thing when she get stress or feeling down. I wan to help her but I don't know how. I do you have any good suggestion? thanks again
Re: Catching Shoplifters From Surveillance Video
Its likely they do. However as I have said repeatedly there is a little chance anything will happen now.
Re: Catching Shoplifters From Surveillance Video
Albertsons has surveillance video.
What your roommate should do is either return the pen or buy a package of pens and leave it at the store or mail them cash to pay for the pens.
Re: Catching Shoplifters From Surveillance Video
Should she return the pen in person? if she buy a package of pens, how would she leave it at the store? does she need to give it to the manager or cashier? plz show me how, thanjs
Re: Catching Shoplifters From Surveillance Video
I think LPCap mean to do this anonmoulsy
Re: Catching Shoplifters From Surveillance Video
Here is what she should do.
#1 Go to the store and purchase the package of pens. Pay in cash and do not scan your shoppers card.
#2 Carry the pens around the store and place them back onto the shelf.
#3 Walk out of the store and don't think about this incident anymore
#4 Never ever steal or take anything which isn't yours ever.
#5 Stop stressing about this incident
