Presence in the Court for a Hearing
Is it obligatory to be present on a hearing or a lawyer can represent a defendant? What if defendant lives abroad and cannot be present on the day of hearing?

It depends upon state law and state rules of criminal procedure, and the nature of the hearing. If your appearance is mandatory, you are expected to appear in court.

Discuss your situation with a criminal defense lawyer and try to make arrangements that minimize your time in court.
