    PBT Reading and Acid Reflux
I have been on probation for 17 of 18 months. I recently had to go for a follow up PBT. I was on otc medication and blew a .012. My prob officer lost her mind and I lied and told her I drank. I went yesterday after two months of blowing clean 2 times per day at my own calling and blew a .015 and a .017 this is just over the .01 margin for error. Tommorrow the PO will hear about this. I DID NOT CONSUME. What should I do?

    Lied to Probation Officer
I am not sure why you would lie to your probation officer and tell you that you were drinking, when you hadn't been drinking.

You need to explain the nature of your OTC medication to your probation officer, and document that it can cause you to appear to have a positive BAC. You would also need to explain that the officers presumably did not observe you for a period of time before administering the PBT, and presumably that they didn't ask you about any medications that you were taking.

    Acid Reflux and Breath Alcohol
A recent study suggests that for most people, acid reflux won't bias a test resut. Additionally, to the extent that acid reflux can bias the test result, it is from the regurgitation of alcohol - so if no alcohol has been consumed, your breath alcohol level shouldn't be affected by acid reflux alone.
