Check the original court records and the disposition papers. If there is paperwork saying your charge of "petty larceny" (or whatever) is dismissed, get a copy of it notarized by the records clerk. It may cost you a few bucks, but it will be well worth the money spent.
Something seems off here. Ask to see the background check, dispute it with the background check company which will buy enough time for you to get down to the courthouse and get the appropriate paperwork.
You never know, they may have sent someone else's record instead of yours.
