Moving Out At Age 17
I live in Indiana and I am 16 about to turn 17 in October. I have been trying to find a way to move out of my parents house when I turn 17. My mother, every time we start to argue, will kick me out of the house and the last time she did that I ended up living with my grandmother for two years in Alabama. My parents do drugs and used to be physicaly violent tward me untill I went to Alabama. I moved back in with them two months ago but things are getting worse. My parents have not hit me yet but they are still doing drugs with me and my 11 year old sister in the house. I have tryed to stop her from doing it but nothing I do will work. I need to get out of this house. I have money and a place to go, I just don't know what to do. If there is anyone out here who can help me I would very much appreciate it. If you have anything you can tell me to help me with my problem please e-mail it to me at dnwl89@yahoo.com. Thank you.

Re: I need help
You need CPS not emancipation

Re: I need help
Indiana has no emancipation statute, but it may nonetheless be possible to convince a juvenile court to grant emancipation where the court finds:
1. The petitioning minor wishes to be free from parental control and protection and no longer requires control and protection;
2. The petitioning minor understands the consequences of being free from parental control and protection
3. The petitioning minor has sufficient money for the child's own support; and
4. The petitioning minor has an acceptable plan for independent living.
Without a statute to reference, it is difficult to gauge what a judge might deem sufficient as a basis for emancipation. However, you have not indicated that your girlfriend is capable of supporting herself, and you indicate that her plan is not to live independently.

Re: Moving Out At Age 17
I'm 16 years old ,but I'm really wanting to move out. It doesn't have to be now, I'm just making plans for when I turn seventeen which is next summer. I'll be a senior and I'll have a job. Things are going okay at home ,but I can't stand it here. My parents take care of me ,but I have an.. older boyfriend / fiance I guess you could say. They hate him with a passion. They think he's not right for me. But anyway... I'm hearing different things. #1: You can move out when you're seventeen and all the cops can do (IN TEXAS) is ask you to call your parents and let them know you're okay. The second thing I've heard was that you'd be considered a run away. Now if the first one is true, there is another thing that I need to know. Several months back me and my boyfriend didn't get caught but were suspected. I was interrogated and all that stuff. I gave up and admitted to everything, cried, told the "mandatory" counselor person my sob story and miraculously... even with all the filmed evidence which came from my mouth... he didn't go to jail. If I'm 17 and decide to just up and move out TO his house, would he get in trouble?

Re: Moving Out At Age 17
Turn 17 and get the job until then nothing else matters. If you feel your home abusive then contact CPS

You have to be 18 to move out without permission.
