16 and Wanting to Get Emancipated
Hi, I'm sixteen and I live in Colorado and my mom and dad haven't schooled me since 3rd grade, and my boyfriend's mother has started schooling me. And I was wondering if I could get emancipated and live on my own or live with my boyfriend's parents? Could I do that? What are the requirements for emancipation in Colorado?
    thanks

Re: 16 and Wanting to Get Emancipated
Colorado does not appear to have a statutorily defined procedure for emancipation. It recognizes emancipation in its statutes:
    Quote:

    Quoting Colorado Code 19-1-103. Definitions
    (45) "Emancipated juvenile", as used in section 19-2-511, means a juvenile over fifteen years of age and under eighteen years of age who has, with the real or apparent assent of the juvenile's parents, demonstrated independence from the juvenile's parents in matters of care, custody, and earnings. The term may include, but shall not be limited to, any such juvenile who has the sole responsibility for the juvenile's own support, who is married, or who is in the military.

and it is my understanding that a court will recognize a minor as emancipated.

As there is no statute, there is no specific procedure I can point to. You may wish to consult a family lawyer.

We have no family lawer, I called Legal Aid but they said they won't help me with a lawer. Is there any lawer that will do it for free or for a low price? I don't have a lot of money.

In Colorado, since I'm sixteen, is there any way that I can move out without their permission? Or is it when I'm 17 that I can do that?
If there's any info on this, please tell me, thanks

You are under your parents legal authority you canno tmove without their consent. However your parents are bound by law to see that you get an education so a CPS report might help better your situation

Thank you for your help! I appreciate it so much, I'll try and call the number. To dial "child" on the phone, do I press the number three times to get to the letter "C"? Or just once?
(I'm not very good at dialing letters) lol

Yes that is correct. Then tell operator the area your in they will give you number or connect you to a local agency counselor that can listen to your issue and give you directions on what to do next and take a report in needed. this can be done without giving your name
