California Expunged Record Shows Up In A Background Check
I received a misdemeanor about 4 years ago when I was in Santa Barbara, it was expunged a year later.
I just landed a job, they were doing a background check and they said something "came up" in Santa Barbara. They'll be getting more information within the next week. Is it possible that what they will see is that there was "something" that was expunged without any detail on it? Or is it more likely that I am just mistaken and it was never expunged in the first place?

What about the arrest record? What kind of information might they get about it?

Who is the employer, and are you SURE that it was expunged?

Expungement has a limited benefit in California, as described here.

I'm almost positive it was expunged. My lawyer made a point of keeping me updated through the whole process. I doubt he was pulling my chain...
Is there any way I can check? Is there any way to get a "record of expungement" of some sort?

UPDATE Re: California Expunged Record Shows Up In A Background Check
    FYI:
The information from the courthouse came back this week and it was simply blank. It seems that a background check is a two-step process. The first step will locate courthouses where there are records, the second step will gather detailed information from the courthouses that come up positive. In the case of an expungement in Santa Barbara county, the first step will identify something. But when the information is pulled up, it comes up blank.
This is for a non-government employer.

Re: California Expunged Record Shows Up In A Background Check
The problem with expungement is that is does NOT do things like unpublish newspapers, unbroadcast news reports, shred neighborhood newsletters, delete records of police calls and notes, or remove record of the incident from a good sized number of other publically accessible sources.
