I Want To Evict My Girlfriend, in Connecticut
Hi, folks! This seems like a GREAT place for information and help regarding legal matters, and I hope someone can help me with my own situation:
Just this past July, I moved into an apartment in Wallingford, CT. My name is the only one on the lease, but I did inform the landlord that I might be taking my girlfriend in with me, who had lived with me for over 7 years at my old apartment.
Now, my girlfriend is my EX-girlfriend, LOL (this has been brewing for two years, so came as no surprise to either of us). My original intention was to take the place by myself and part company right there and then, but foolish compassion intervened since she hasn't two nickels to rub together, so I felt sorry and told her she could move in with me - and we both agreed that if we still couldn't work things out, she'd voluntarily leave the new place to return to PA, where her family resides.
Shortly after completing the move (by myself, the Good Lord LOVES disc compressions, lol), it became apparent that things were going south fast. Her cat has been vomiting on my freshly shampooed wall-to-wall carpeting, and he continues to turn MY decent furniture into $900 cat toys with his clawing and shedding. (The landlord is awarre that the cat is there). And she has informed me that, because of her horribly excessive debt to credit card companies (from her split with her husband of 20 years - and to whom she is STILL married, LOLOL), she will not be giving me half of the rent as previously verbally agreed upon. I feel like a dunce and a dupe, and that I should've just left her at the old place to figure out what to do about her problems, but "20-20 hindsight", and all that.
I told her this week that she had until this October 1st to get her affairs in order and vacate, and while she has said that she "plans to leave before the winter months", last night's blowout - stemming mostly from her anger at me for ceasing our romantic relationship, plus her customary bottle-o'-wine-per-night habit - leads me to think that she may well decide to milk this free-rent and free-utility situation as long as she can.
My question? What can I do to prepare for the worst-case scenario? If she refuses to leave at the time I verbally told her she has until to do so, what is, if any, my recourse? Can I in fact take a day off after October 1, remove her belongings from the apartment while she is at work, and change the locks? Or can I have her escorted away by police? Or do I need to "serve her" with particular papers - giving her yet MORE time to try my patience, enjoy room-and-board-for-free, and to verbally assault me?
Truly, any insight into what, exactly, would be the best way to handle this situation to my benefit would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks,
warmly,

If she doesn't move then you need to file for eviction in court.
