15-Year-Old Male in Florida Wanting to be Wmancipated Soon
I understand that Florida law says you must be 16 years of age to apply for emancipation, but that's not too far off, so I think I'll look into it now. My mother is very opressive, and controlling. If I were working, able to support myself renting a room out of a friend's (clean, in a respectable area) house, had my own car, and going to school full time with OJT (on job training) as a class, would a judge accept that as grounds for emancipation?
Thanks in advance,
J.G.
Re: 15 year old male in Florida wanting to be emancipated soon.
You understand incorrectly.
In Florida, YOU do not file for emancipation at all. The ONLY way a minor in Florida can be emancipated (and it is not guaranteed even if this happens) is if YOUR PARENTS file the petition.
And no, I don't see anything in your post that suggests a judge would find this an acceptable reason to emancipate. There isn't a teen in the world who doesn't think his or her parents are too controlling.
