    Rooming With An Emancipated Minor
Im am 28 year old male and live in Maine. I am currently looking for a roommate, and need to find one ASAP. The only call I have had from any of the ads I have placed is from a 17 year old emancipated girl. She is coming to look at the place on Sunday, and I asked her to bring proof of emancipation. But even if she can prove it, will I be getting myself into a potential mess if I rent a room out to her?

You are getting yourself into a potential mess if you rent to ANY female, over or under 18.

I've lived with females before...it's not a problem. It's the emancipated minor thing that I'm worried about.

Is it that you're worried you won't be able to enforce the lease, if she tries to walk away from it?

No, there is no lease. I just want to make sure that I am in no way legally responsible for her or for choices that she makes.

If you want assurance that there is "no way" that something can happen, asking a lawyer is about the worst thing you can do - we're all about figuring out the "worst case scenarios". ;)
