Emancipation Advice Please
Ok so I guess you could call me another exaggerating teen looking for a way out. But hey, I have a job! It pays me a dollar over minimum wage, a dollar extra on Sunday, and my evaluation is coming up so I'm due for a raise, it also gives me benefits like health insurance and what not. Why I need health insurance is unknown to me since I haven't been sick in three years and usually it's just my allergies or a stomach virus which you can't treat with medicine anyway. I also have a place to stay. The rent would be 200 a month in a surprisingly VERY nice area of Brevard County: Viera which is where the courthouse is located coincidentally, and the rent includes water and gas. Everyone asks why kids just can't wait till they're 18. My situation is a little different. I'm graduating at 17 years old and I will start college in the summer. I do NOT want to still be under my parents' extremely over-protective thumb while I'm in college full-time, I'm dual enrolled so this is my 2nd semester in college and I love it so much. I DON'T want it to be ruined by my parents while everyone else gets to go be big kids. This doesn't sound like reason enough to get emancipated but there's more. ABUSE: Any willful or threatened act or omission that results in any physical, mental, or sexual injury or harm that causes or is likely to cause the child's physical, mental, or emotional health to be significantly impaired. If you follow that straight definition, I've been an abused child. Tons of times my parents have threatened me, and one time my dad beat me with a belt so hard it left a bruise, and my mom's family were all there to see it. When I was younger, about 13, my parents drove me to the point of cutting myself. I do believe that is a mental disorder, kind of like anorexia. The school knows about that so I suppose it's documented. Also my grown sister who is a paralegal can testify for me they are mentally and verbally abusive, like when my mother calls me fat when I'm 105 pounds on a 5'3'' frame. So anyway, I have the means to support myself, I just have to find a good wording.
Re: Emancipation Advice Please!
In Florida, if you wish to emancipate, you need your parents to initiate the process.
Re: Emancipation Advice Please!
In Florida, the ONLY way you can be emancipated is if your parents file the petition.
If they will not do so, you're licked before you start.
