I Want to be Emancipated From My Parents
I'm 17 years old and I live with my parents. I have a job, a supporting boyfriend, and a place to live. How do I go along with emancipating myself?

    Emancipation
The requirements for an emancipation depend upon the laws of the jurisdiction where you live, which you have not disclosed.

I also wish to be emancipated from my parents and Im almost 17. I live in Tarrant County in the state of Texas. I have a job and a place to live as well. I would like to leave BEFORE Im 17 because the situation that Im living in is not healthy for me to be in and MANY other adults agree with me; however, the police believe my living situation is fine because my father has a high income and both my parents are around and there is no evidence of extreme physical abuse merely "minor" abuse they claim. My mother though is extremely mentally abusive and though police do not believe that is an excuse for me to go live somewhere else. I kno emancipation is a serious decision and I have thought very long and hard about my decision and what other options I may have. This is the only option for me Im sure. I know where Im living is not healthy for me and I do not believe its fair that I have to stay in a house where I DO NOT feel safe merely because of my families higher income. I do not understand why I may not leave if I am in school and making relatively good grades, capable of supporting myself, and have a place where I can live already set up. I would like advice on what steps I can take to be able to leave soon.
    Thank you for your help.

    Emancipation in Texas
The Texas law which provides for emancipation (“Removal of Disability of Minority”) requires that you file a petition with a court and establish that you can care for yourself without adult involvement. You can't simply tell the police that you want to be emancipated - until you are emancipated, they have to treat you as a minor under the care and control of your parents.

Re: I want to be emancipated from my parents
Okay, so this is the problem that I am currently facing. I'm 14 years old, and already I have given the idea of emancipation from my parents much thought. However, I do not actually intend to leave until I turn 16. The job that I am seeking pays a fair enough price for me to support myself, and I will be able to continue my education at the local highschool I will be attending this comming year. My major problem lies here though, I have been told that emancipation cannot be done unless a child is being abused or has been given their parents permission, something that I am well past positive my parents will not give. I'm prepared to openly admitt that I have not done so well throughout school this past year, but that is because little effort was applied on my part. Yet, when allowed to do so, I can work harder than ever to see that my grades sky rocket. Of course, there is much pressure put on me to do well in school and sometimes it becomes a bit overwhelming. I am not, however, saying I cannot cope well with stress but often, I choose not to have it where it isn't needed and I am perfectly capable of providing for myself. Also, given the knowledge that my survival relies basically upon me, I will be encouraged to do better. I have already planned out most everything I will need to know except for the one detail of being allowed to move out on my own. I'm more than confident that I can support myself. I am confident that I can do just fine out there on my own. I just need help getting myself there, since I know there are few people on my side. Please, help me if you can with this by giving me ideas and helpful suggestions and I will be forever greatful.

Emancipation laws vary by state. You may wish to start a new thread and ask about the laws in your state.

If you read the posts that preceded yours you would know that you can post a new thread and ask your question. But it might be more expeditious to search the forum, as there are literally dozens of threads discussing Ohio's very limited emancipation laws.
