Bank Account Frozen
A friend of mine has a judgment against her in Union County New Jersey, they did a bank levy on her account in April 2007, she went to court and the judge released 1,000 to her and the rest went towards the judgment. She was supposed to honor a payment plan for the balance made at that time. She did not. They have now froze the same bank account. I thought they thet were not allowed to levy the same bank account more than once. That is the law in NY, I am not sure about NJ.
Can someone answer this,
Thanks

Re: Bank Account Frozen
You thought that because....
When your friend violated the payment plan, she opened herself up to this.

Re: Bank Account Frozen
Because that is the law in New York.

Re: Bank Account Frozen
Do you have a citation for that law? States can have strange laws, but I can't imagine why any state would pass such a law.

Re: Bank Account Frozen
No, dont have the statute, I was a collection manager for many years for a law firm in NY. That was the law 5 years ago...

Re: Bank Account Frozen
I suspect that you are thinking about a prohibition against simultaneous garnishments as opposed to successive garnishments. I also suspect that you're thinking of wage garnishments, not the garnishment of bank accounts.
You can look up New York statutes here, if you truly believe the law you mentioned exists.
