Warrant for Theft

I have a warrant in Harris County Texas. The charge is Theft $200/750 Check, Class A Misdemeanor. I was planning to move back to Texas and I just found out about this 9 year old warrant. I want to clear this up, but I don't want an arrest to hinder my options for renting an apartment, buying a house, or getting a job and I definitely do not want to do jail time. Can anyone advise me?

Try contacting a criminal defense lawyer in Harris County and working out a deal to get rid of the old charge. You may be able to get a favorable deal, as a charge that old can be difficult to prosecute and the prosecutor may wish to clear the file.

I just found out that a friend of mine that recently moved to Texas has a warrant as well. He was able to buy a house and get a drivers license without any problem. However, his warrant is for failure to appear for a traffic violation. Should I just risk it and move without addressing the warrant? Or is his warrant for failure to appear on a traffic violation less severe than my misdemeanor theft by check charge? Any thoughts?
