Possessions Stolen After Victim Left The Country
Nine years ago, a friend of ours committed a crime in Hungary. He and his wife came to the US, lived and worked here for 8 years, were recently caught in Illinois, and sent back with their small child who is a US citizen.
As soon as they got to Hungary, the wife was cleared of all charges. Her husband's charges are pending and will be reviewed in August. Neither is in jail.
These people own a home in the US and some of their so called "friends" stole everything from them, including the emptying of their bank accounts. One person, in particular, is spreading vicious rumors about them and trying to blame others for the theft (however, there are many witnesses as to who did it). The people who took everything, keep claiming that the people deported will never be able to return (as if that gives them the right to take their things).
How can she come back to the US to take care of their business and what recourse do they have against the the people who took everything from them? Their child is 3 years old and is a US citizen.

Their claims are probably assignable, meaning that they can have somebody in the United States assume their rights and bring an action even in their absence. They can inquire about this possibility with an Illinois lawyer.
You don't indicate why they were sent back to Hungary - whether it was because of the pending charges, because they were unlawfully in the U.S., or both. Whether or not the wife could return to prosecute a civil case will depend upon the circumstances of her departure or deportation, and the duration of her period of inelgibility for reentry.
