    Should Joint Custody Be Practiced
Hello, my name is carmen =)

Currently doing a legal studies assignment on joint custody. So, in your opinion, should joint custody be practiced??

About the shared expenses, do you think that there is such case where the father can chose not to pay the maintenance for the child?

If the father chooses NOT to pay the maintenance, does this mean the government has to subsidise more in terms of social welfare?

Does joint costudy necessarily reduce the conflict between the two parties?

I would like to know your opinion... Thank You

Is there such thing that father can actually choose NOT to pay the maintenance? I doubt, since it is his child afterall. Please explain this part ...

Actually I don't really agree with Joint Custody.
I'm not too sure but in this case both parents do not have FULL responsibility to the child, thus they can push the responsibility to each other, claiming the other party should be the one responsible for certain things, which might not benefit the child's welfare.

And if Joint custody is practised in all circumstances, what if one of the parent is not working, eg, a housewife, does it mean that she has to pay the same expenses as her millionaire husband for their child? I'm not too sure about this part of law, please clarify. But if that's the case, it certainly isn't a good thing.

In what circumstances will that happen?

I don't exactly thing so. Joint custody is more towards the child, it helps to strengthen parents' relationship with the child, but it doesnt seem to reduce much of conflict between the divorced couple.

Well, if im not mistaken.. For the Malaysian Islamic Law, after a divorce, the husband can chose to pay maintenance or not..

Im not sure if this is true.. But, if you're malaysian, please inform me on this.
