    Possession of Paraphernalia in Virginia
well i just graduated from college and was back home in Northern VA visiting family and friends. Unfortunately i got popped with a Possession of Drug Paraphernalia charge. This is my first offense, and the worst timing. I just had a glass pipe. Apparently its a misdemeanor, which i don't need on my record right now, when its time to get a real job.
I hear that it stays on your record for life? I was the passenger in the vehicle which got pulled over for a tail light that was out. I was asked to step out of the vehicle and was asked if i could be searched (im white with pretty long dreads). I asked why, they said "for safety purposes"...there was 2 of them and i screwed up and said yea, i figured if i said no they would screw with me. which i will never do again, whats done is done. They were intimidating, its there job.
so they found the pipe, and i got a citation with that charge. i have to appear in court.
This attorney says that they had no reason to ask me to step out of the car when we were being stopped for a tail light. and they could possibly (50-60%) get me off for $1800 or have it reduced to a 251? or some number like that. from what i understand it stays on my record for a year if reduced, then turns into some number.. the max fine is $500 for that charge. Im trying to figure out if its really worth it? I have the 1800 but rather buy a dirt bike ;).... it probably wont look good when getting a job. anyone know anymore details?

I guess you need to decide which you value more: Not having a criminal conviction on your record, possibly for the rest of your life, or having a dirt bike.
