    Affidavit for Assault Case
I have been asked to write an affidavit for an assult case. I did not witness the assult but the person being charge assulted me (I did not press charges) as well as harass me online via IM and PM on a local forum as well as phone calls. The only "proof" that I have is print outs of the PM's. Quite frankly I do not want to be involved in this situation for fear of it coming back on me...the guy has left me alone. I guess what my question is, I have no clue what I am doing, what is the best way to go about writing this affidavit?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Affidavit for Assault Case
You don't indicate who asked for the affidavit or why - is the person who is accused of assault trying to get you to lie for him?

I would suggest that you continue to maintain records, and that you don't under any circumstances issue a false affidavit.

    Sorry not enough details...

A couple (Husband and Wife) were assulted by a man that assulted me over a year ago. I did not press charges for fear of further aggressive from him. The couple were assulted about a month ago and went directly to the magistraight (sp) to file. The couple has asked me to write a statement I am guessing kind of a character witness(?) as to what the assulter is like. I do have the threatening PM he sent me.

Quite frankly, I want to help put this guy away, he is extremely unstable and dangerous on the other hand I want nothing to do with the situation since he has finally left me alone.

    Request for Affidavit
What would be the purpose of the statement or affidavit? Are they suing this individual? If it is for a criminal prosecution, why is the request coming from them instead of from the prosecutor?
