    Verbal Abuse in the Workplace
I have a few times, in my place of work, where customers become upset with a situation and often decide to take it out on the cashier (me) and swear at me and become very angry. Is there any law against swearing in public towards somebody? Is it considered a type of Verbal Assault? I do not feel that I have to accept that type of behavior and treatment from anyone and I refuse to. Can I make a citizens arrest and file charges against any person who consistently swears at me and makes me feel unsafe? Thanks!

How about finding a job that doesn't require interaction with the public??

You didn't indicate your state, but I seriously doubt there is a state with a law prohibiting rude and crude behavior. In my state of California this would not be a crime as we have no statute against "verbal assault". I doubt your state does either.

People really shouldn't become rude/offensive in manner to you but it isn't against the law. If you refuse to accept it, you may have to look for a different type of job.
