Executor Misplaced Receipts
My question involves estate proceedings in the state of: Va
Executor misplaced receipts for about 10 items, what takes place.
There was a loss in value of these assets of about $1500.00 and this was on the final accounting of $1m estate.

I am a little confused by your use of the word "receipts" in this context. Are you talking about records of debts paid or assets sold?
Are you saying that this is a 1 million dollar estate? If so, missing records on $1500 is a bit of a drop in the bucket wouldn't you say?

Assets sold
What kind, how many, how much each?
Can't the executor go back to the buyer's and get new receipts?

Who's pitching a b--ch and why? Does somebody have personal hostility toward the executor? I can't imagine any other reason to make a big issue over such trivial amounts compared to such a large estate.
When my mother died, I sold about $8000 worth of her personal property for cash. Never got or gave receipts. Just kept an itemized list and divided the money when the estate was closed. None of my siblings had any issue with anything.
What's the real story behind all this?
Re: Executor Misplaced Receipts
The commissioner is requesting the receipts.

Could you explain who the commissioner is? That is not a term I've heard in connnection with estates in my neck of the woods.

From the internet:
"The Virginia Commissioner System is Virginia's probate system. While most states have probate courts and probate judges, Virginia relies on the Circuit Courts and the Commissioners."

Would have helped to know that at the getgo.
Have the executor go back to the buyer's and get new receipts.

Re: Executor Misplaced Receipts
There must be a reason why the commissioner is so interested in the accounting of a minor amount of money. There must be more to the story but I’m sure we won’t be told.
Re: Executor Misplaced Receipts
The commissioner of Accounts is a county official who reviews all accountings of estates in Virginia.
