Transfer of Title, Bill of Sale Signature Falsified
My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: Washington

My wife and I purchased our first car this past week, I had my mechanic with me and all went great until it came to the purchase. The guy was selling his mother-in-law's estate and vehicle as she was needing assisted living and being moved to Florida.

The title was signed but by the owner not the son-in-law. The owner(s) were not present but the guy had a handwritten bill of sale by his father-in-law, only the amount was filled in on both bill of sale and title for $2300 not the full $9800 he was charging.

This guy seemed legit, it wasn't until last night i was going through some of the documentation in the glove box to where I discovered the father-in-law had deceased back in 2013.

I haven't gone into the DOL to transfer the title yet but now seeing that thus bill of sale is signed my a deceased person of 6 years ago and dated for this month, what are my options?

The guy has my address and looking his son who was with him up, is suspected of arson for his charter fishing boat, so they are seeming shadier and shadier.

At this point the wife and I already want out of this and want to get rid of the vehicle.

How are you going to prove that you paid 9800.00 for the vehicle when all of the paperwork says 2300.00?

That should have set off the alarm bells and set the red flag waving.

Well, that's not going to happen.

WA requires a bill of sale to compute the use tax.

All you can do is take your papers to the DMV office and you'll be told what to do to make it right.
