Caught Shoplifiting from Target in Florida
I was caught stealing 119$ worth of merchandise from target. Security caught me on the way out brought me in a room. I gave them the merchandise admitted to stealing , gave ID , SS etc. had my parents called.

They brought in an on-site police officer and told me I would receive a court date in the mail and would be prosecuted the the fullest extent it's their policy etc.. I'm not sure what to do now , I know this was a HUGE mistake.. I'm 17 have no criminal record at all and I'm just wondering at this point what to expect. I'm not sure on the laws here but the officer informed me that I was a juvenile and it was a misdemeanor charge petty theft ( under 300$ for Florida ).

I was on camera so I know at this point I should plead guilty.. I do not have the money for an attorney and even though my parents know I am not going to ask them for money.. Do I ask for a public defender ? what consequences should I expect ? Community service ? Fine ? all of the above?

And most important of all since I am a juvenile will this appear on my record when I apply for jobs in the future ? I am an early graduate from highschool attending college I do not want this slip-up to affect my future. Please help me out any advice is appreciated.

    thanks

You should consult a criminal defense Attorney and discuss your options including possible diversion programs

The most likely outcome is probation with fines, and possibly community service.

What's an "on-site police officer"? Cops don't get paid to walk around Target stores so I'm wondering exactly whom you dealt with.....it could make a huge difference.
