Holding a knife on roommate during dispute
    hello
    i am living in Toronto
i have some conflict with my roommate recently because he alway play the music very loud.
today when i the third time knocked his door and told him turn down the music, we have a serious dispute and he did a threathen action to me.
i have a little out of my mind and go back my room to take a knife to defend myself. i held a kinef but keep distance with him, until the landlord come to mediate. we did not have any body contact in this whole event

when i hold the kinfe, i keep staying my room and did not leave my room in this whole case
The landlord told me if my roommate call 911 at that time, i would be arrest and have criminal record.
i want to know that did i against the law when i held the kinfe at hand?

    thank you so much

    Holding Knife On Roommate
It is hard to say, without knowing the full facts and circumstances - you may wish to discuss your situation in detail with a local criminal defense lawyer. If your roommate didn't call the police, the issue is probably moot. (Although it sounds like you need to find a different place to live.)

It's generally not wise to brandish a knife, save in true self-defense situations.

so you mean in some circumstance, i use the knife in my room also can be illegal? Could you give me some resource that i can find the detail of the related law
By the way, how about i using baseball bat instead of knife?

    Using Weapons
How about not threatening your roommate with weapons?

If you believe you are facing deadly force, waving a knife is probably going to be excused. Starting a conflict over a loud stereo and having it escalate to the point where you are threatening your roommate with knives or baseball bats sounds like a pretty good path to spending time in jail.
