I Need Out!

I am 16 years old and all my life my mother has physically and mentally abused me. Then about 6 years ago she married a horrible man who abused both or us. After about 5 years she finally kicked him out but since then she's been worse. She always tells me I'm useless, a pain, she hates me, etc. She had 2 children my this man that I take care of. I'm not allowed to see my friends and she makes sure I have no one to talk to. Once my real father called child services and they came to talk to me at school. Then they called and told her. When I got home she was waiting for me. She beat me. I wasnt allowed to sleep that night. She has also told me she will never let me leave because she wants me to make my life as horrible as she can. I cant even pass my classes because I'm not allowed to do my homework until I'm done helping her, which is usually about 11:30 or 12:00 in the evening. I really need some advice. The problem is i want to be emancipated, i have the money, but I live in Tennessee and they are really stupid about that kind of stuff here. Please help me.

I assume you read that Tennessee does not have statutes that address becoming emancipated.

What you are describing is child abuse. It needs to be reported again.

Has your father considered filing for custody?

He said he wont. I've begged him to.

I was gonna call a lawyer on Monday and hopefully discuss some options

You can talk to a school couselor about the troubles you are experiencing at home. They are mandated by law to report the abuse.

You can also call CPS and tell them what is happening.

Why didn't child services follow up on the allegations of abuse?

I have talked to a couple counselors and they all told me to just wait because I'm 16 and will be leaving soon anyways.

You told them about the physical abuse?

Yes! The only one counselor has told me different, She told me to go to the run away shelter, but the problem with that is they make you go back home

You didn't say how the first investigation ended.

Did you actual go to the runaway shelter or is this what you were told?

no i didnt because i would just have to go home in three days.
