Can Minors Move Away if They Have Finished High School
My question involves juvenile law in the State of: Florida.

my boyfriend and i were curious to as if we can move out and in together once we graduate? (if we graduate early before the age of 18) Thanks! :)

When you turn 18 you can do what you want. Until then you are a minor and will have to live where mom and dad say you live. If mom and dad are - for some absurd reason - okay with you shacking up with your beau, then you can do it (assuming you are both of legal age to engage in sexual relations in FL).

Graduating from high school at 17 does not make you an adult or an emancipated minor. You are still a dependent minor.

Let's make sure this is clear, since you are both under 18.

If BOTH sets of parents give you permission to move out, you can.

If EITHER set of parents say you cannot move out, then you cannot move out.

Each of you lives where your respective parents say you do until you are actually 18. No parent can give permission for the other one's child to move out.

Whether they "are both of legal age to engage in sexual relations" has no relevance to the legality of "shacking up." If their parents are ok with it -- and if they can find a landlord willing to rent to two unemancipated minors (which is probably the most unrealistic part of this, unless the OP is envisioning some sort of alternative living arrangement that doesn't require paying rent to a landlord) -- then they may legally live together, regardless of whether either or both is older than the "age of consent."

In those states where minors are permitted by a parent or guardian to move in together and unlawful sexual activity is likewise permitted, the permitting parents can be charged with a crime. I do not know the status of this in FL, but in my state you CAN be charged if you allow your minor children to engage in sexual activity.

Giving permission for two persons to live together and giving them permission to have sex are very different things.

Regardless, Florida's "Romeo & Juliet" exception to its statutory rape law makes this a moot discussion.

    Hi YoungandInLove,

The other posters are correct. BOTH your and your boyfriend's parents must approve of you living together until 12am on your 18th birthdays. Pg1067 raised a good point. In Florida, it's very hard to get a landlord to consider renting to someone with a pet, let alone someone that is legally not old enough to enter a contract in the State of Florida. If both of you are to get emancipated (which really isn't worth it because emancipation takes months to years), a landlord still has the right not to rent to you because its a certain day of the week, not because of your age (even though I'm sure there would be implicit bias there). Overall, wait until your 18 or get permission from your parents to move into one of their homes because it'll be impossible to get someone to rent to you under the age of 18.

Age of consent in FL is 16. Therefore no, the parents would not get into any trouble.
