Re: Emancipation in Ga, Georgia
I don't know that a minor can enroll himself in school here in California without the parent or evidence of legal emancipation. I guess that would be for an attorney to answer, however, I have had to enroll my children in school each time they went from grade to grade (including high school).
Re: Emancipation in Georgia
You cannot legally leave your home in Georgia at the age of 17 without parental consent. Just because you can be prosecuted as an adult, that does not mean that you have all rights of an adult. In GA, a 17 year old runaway can be charged with a status offense.
There is legal emancipation by court order in GA. However, the requirements are very strict. Without your parents' consent, the odds of success are slim to none, unless you can come up with overwhelming proof that being on your own on the other side of the country to finish high school (when you have a perfectly adequate high school to attend in your home state) is in your best interest.

ACTUALLY YOU CAN LEAVE YOUR HOUSE WITHOUT YOUR PARENTS PERMISSION IF YOU ARE 17. ASK THE COPS THEY WILL TELL YOU. YOUR PARENTS CAN'T FILE U AS A RUNAWAY IF U TELL THEM THAT U R MOVING OUT AND WHERE TO. THEY CAN REQUEST THAT U COME BACK BUT THE POLICE CAN'T FORCE YOU LIKE THEY CAN IF YOU'RE 16 OR UNDER. I DONT KNOW ABOUT THE ENROLLMENT THOUGH, I THINK YOU NEED YOUR PARENTS FOR THAT.
Re: Emancipation in Georgia
This is incorrect it snot that Police cant is they wont! You are under your parents authority until you reach the age of majority. This is not first time someone thought this true its not. Police tend to not want to chase down a 17 year old who turn 18 very soon but if parents insist they can and will. By the way whoever is allowing minor to stay at their home can be in legal and Civil trouble themself.
