    Can The Father Of My Son Change His Last Name
    i live in new york state. i had my son 9 months ago his father is on the birth certificate and has signed acknowledgement of paternity and right now my son has my last name his father is fighting with me change it. does it matter that my son's father is not in the picture

    He could file a motion to change the childs last name...Is he paying support? Is there a support order? Is there a visitation order?

    he just ordered to start paying 50 dollars a month and we are going for custody i'm trying for sol custody

    He can petition the court to change the child's name. That does not mean the court will do so.

    i know the court needs a good reason to change the last name. his reason is that he wants his last name carried on. would that be a good reason

    What does that have to do with the best interests of the child, which is typically the judge's primary concern in these situations. If the answer is "little to nothing", it's not a particularly compelling argument. Can I say a judge won't make a ruling that makes no sense? No, but most judges are sensible.
