I have a 17 year old that will be 18 in August of 2007. At the age of 14 he was made a ward of the State of Indiana and placed in foster care. The child was removed from our home at our request for behavioral problems as well as physically, mentally, and sexually abusing his younger brother and sister. We have been paying child support ever since even though it is depriving our other two of clothing for school and other needs. We were told by child protective services that he was given a choice to remain in foster care for an extra year in order to complete his senior year of high school. He has chosen to do this. Now they are saying that we will have to continue to pay support untill he completes school and is out of foster care and supporting himself. It is our understanding that he is working at this time. Can he be emancipated at this time or do we have to wait untill he chooses to move out of foster care? For the saftey of our other two children we have chose to relinquish all contact and have signed a wavier of parental rights of the child with Child Protective Services. We have also been informed by Child Protective Services that the only way we can avoid this is to allow him back in our home. This is NOT an option as my other two children are afraid of him as am I. Please help me!!! What can I do?
